Can You Change the Shape of Your Eyes with Plastic Surgery?

Brow Lift in Northern Alabama and the Huntsville AreaPlastic surgery is commonly used to improve the appearance, either by enhancing facial features or by addressing signs of aging. In fact, some plastic surgery procedures can even do both of these things at once! This is the case with brow lift surgery – although it is primarily used to address signs of aging in the browline and forehead, it has the added benefit of rejuvenating the eyes and giving them a more youthful shape. Below, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about the brow lift surgery.

How Does Brow Lift Surgery Work?

As we age, the skin on the forehead begins to sag from repeated muscle contractions and facial expressions. Over time, this causes the formation of forehead wrinkles, wrinkles between the brows and a sagging browline. Once the browline begins to sag, it can cause a tired, angry or otherwise weathered appearance. Many people feel like this alters the shape of their eyes, thereby changing their whole appearance. The brow lift surgery lifts and tightens the skin on the forehead, lifting the browline to a more youthful position. In addition to smoothing out forehead wrinkles, the brow lift will rejuvenate the eyes and may even improve their appearance.

What is the Brow Lift Procedure Like?

During the brow lift procedure, which is performed with the aid of anesthesia, an incision is made around the ears and along the hairline, where any scarring will be well-concealed. Then, excess skin is removed and tightened to raise the browline and produce a more youthful appearance. Afterwards, the incisions will be sealed and the treatment will be complete. Following the brow lift procedure, patients can expect some swelling, bruising and varying discomfort in the treatment area. However, the brow lift procedure has a fairly brief recovery period compared to other facial surgeries. Within approximately two weeks, patients will be able to return to their usual activities and routines.

What Results Can I Expect from a Brow Lift?

While there will be some noticeable results immediately following the brow lift treatment, the full results will become visible once the initial recovery period has passed. As a surgical treatment, the brow lift procedure can produce results that last for several years, helping patients rejuvenate the forehead and the eyes in one simple treatment.

Facelift: Should I Get a Facelift or Fillers?

Facelift in Northern Alabama and the Huntsville Area

If you’re considering facial rejuvenation treatments, two of the treatments you are likely to consider are dermal fillers and a facelift. While both of these treatments can be highly effective in the right scenario, the two treatments have some distinct differences that you will need to consider. Below, we’ll take a look at what differentiates these treatments so that you can determine which of these options is best for you.

Surgical vs. Non-Surgical Treatment

Before determining which treatment to pursue, you need to first consider your own cosmetic goals. Dermal fillers are a non-surgical, minimally-invasive treatment that is best suited for patients looking for more subtle results. If you are showing mild to moderate signs of aging, it’s possible that dermal fillers can produce your desired results, thereby eliminating the need for surgery or other invasive techniques. On the other hand, if you have more severe signs of aging, such as sagging skin and deep wrinkles, the surgical techniques of a facelift may be required to produce the substantial age-defying results that you are seeking.

The Treatment Experience

As a minimally-invasive treatment, dermal fillers can be administered quickly and comfortably during a brief in-office visit. Patients receiving dermal filler treatments can expect to have their treatment completed in under 30 minutes, with no downtime or recovery period necessary. This makes dermal fillers an ideal option for patients looking for a convenient treatment experience. Conversely, the facelift procedure is a lengthy surgical process. Following the facelift procedure, you can expect some swelling, bruising and varying discomfort as you heal. The healing process can take a few weeks, so you’ll have to take time away from work and other activities while you recuperate.

The Results

Dermal filler treatments produce results instantly, which is great for patients who are looking to quickly address cosmetic concerns. However, the downside to this is that most dermal filler results only last about 6 to 12 months. After these results fade, additional treatments will be required. With the facelift treatment, while results may not be fully noticeable until the body is fully recovered, they are quite long-lasting. Although it can vary from patient to patient, most patients look several years younger after treatment, and the results from a facelift last for many years to come.

Which Treatment is Best for Me?

If you are still struggling to choose between dermal fillers and a facelift, contact us today to schedule your consultation at Nease Cosmetic Surgery. We can review your cosmetic goals and your treatment options in order to find the best solution for your needs.

What is the Best Face Tightening Procedure?

Facelift in Huntsville, ALFace tightening is one of the most highly-requested cosmetic treatments. For patients of all ages, face tightening can be one of the fastest ways to rejuvenate the appearance and diminish signs of aging. If you’re considering face tightening, you might be asking, “What is the best face tightening procedure?”. Well, surgeons and patients alike have the same answer for you: a facelift! Below, we’ll take a closer look at this iconic procedure so that you can determine if it’s a good fit for you.

Advantages of a Facelift

There are many techniques available for skin tightening, and even some that are non-invasive. So why choose a facelift? Well, it comes down to the fact that the facelift can produce far greater results and in far less time. With non-invasive treatments, patients are limited by the body’s ability to react to treatments. These techniques may be effective for younger patients who are just beginning to develop signs of aging, but they typically don’t do enough for older patients. Since these results can be limited, a facelift is the best way to guarantee your desired results. Furthermore, many non-invasive treatments require several treatment sessions for best results – and these treatments often have to be repeated to maintain results. With a facelift, you can receive one treatment and instantly achieve results that last for many years.

What to Know About the Facelift

Now that you understand the benefits of the facelift procedure, take a second to consider some of the other aspects of this treatment. First, it’s important to understand that the recovery process from a facelift can be lengthy. Patients will need to take at least a week off of work and other activities, as it is crucial to rest as much as possible following the surgery. Second, there are still some limitations to the facelift procedure. For example, the facelift does not rejuvenate the neck. For more comprehensive facial rejuvenation, you may want to consider combining your facelift with a neck lift or a brow lift.

Am I A Good Candidate for a Nose Job?

Rhinoplasty in Huntsville, ALThe nose job procedure, also called a rhinoplasty, can be the perfect procedure to enhance your facial profile and complement your facial features. While many people understand the benefits of a rhinoplasty, they still have questions about what makes a good candidate for the nose job procedure. Below, we’ll help you determine if you are a good candidate for a nose job by asking a few simple questions.

Are You In Good Health?

The first factor that can determine your candidacy for a nose job, or any cosmetic surgery procedure, is your health. If you are a smoker, are diabetic, or suffer from a number of health conditions, you may not be a good candidate for surgery. This is because the stress that surgery places on the body might put you in danger when combined with these variables. Reviewing your health history with your surgeon can help you uncover any risks you might encounter with a rhinoplasty, but most patients in good health are suitable candidates for rhinoplasty.

Do You Know What to Expect from Treatment?

There are many things to consider about rhinoplasty outside of the cosmetic benefits. First, you need to understand the recovery that the surgery requires. After a rhinoplasty, you will need to take several days off of work and other activities. When planning your surgery, you need to remember to keep this in mind so that your procedure and recovery process go as smoothly as possible. Second, you need to understand the cost of surgery. Unless you are experiencing breathing difficulties related to your nose, your rhinoplasty will be considered a cosmetic procedure, and therefore will not be covered by insurance. Although the cost of your procedure may not be determined until your consultation, you may want to consider setting aside money or applying for financing before you schedule your treatment. Outside of these two factors, you’ll want to have realistic expectations going into your treatment so that you can plan your treatment appropriately.

Are You Ready to Discuss Your Treatment with a Cosmetic Surgeon?

If you are ready to take the next step in your rhinoplasty process, contact us today to schedule your consultation with Dr. Nease of Nease Cosmetic Surgery. Here, you can discuss your treatment goals and determine an optimal treatment plan for your nose job.

Do I Need a Brow Lift or Blepharoplasty?

Brow Lift in Huntsville, ALThey say that the eyes are the window to the soul. If that’s the case, then you may want to keep your eyes and the surrounding areas as youthful as possible. When it comes to rejuvenating the upper areas of the face, there are two main procedures to do so: the brow lift and the blepharoplasty. Below, we’ll take a look at the benefits of these procedures to help you decide if they are right for you.

The Brow Lift

The brow lift procedure is performed with the main goal of rejuvenating the brow line. Over time, the eyebrows can begin to sag, contributing to an aged or weathered appearance. If you’ve begun to experience this, you may also notice that you look more tired or angry when your face is at a resting position. All of these characteristics come down to the positioning of the eyebrows. A brow lift can rejuvenate the appearance by restoring the brows to a more youthful position. With this treatment, you can look more alert and attentive.

The Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, focuses on rejuvenating the eyes through the eyelids. It may come as a surprise that your eyelids age just like the rest of the face, but it’s true! The eyelids often begin to droop over time, causing you to look tired or unhappy. In severe cases, this process can even interfere with your vision. Fortunately, eyelid surgery can restore youthfulness to the eyes with a discreet and subtle surgery. Blepharoplasty trims the excess skin from the eyelids so that they rest at a more youthful position. This procedure can also address bags under the eyes to help you look more well-rested.

Combining a Brow Lift and a Blepharoplasty

For complete upper face rejuvenation, you may want to consider combining the brow lift and blepharoplasty procedures into a single treatment. By taking advantage of the benefits that both of these treatments offer, you can achieve more noticeable results and a significantly more youthful appearance. With both treatments, we can place incisions in very discreet locations to minimize scarring. These treatments will require some downtime, which is why patients are encouraged to combine treatments and address their concerns in a single procedure.

Is a Brow Lift or Blepharoplasty Right for You?

Both brow lifts and blepharoplasties can be powerful procedures for rejuvenating the face. If you are considering one of these procedures, contact us today at Nease Cosmetic Surgery to schedule your consultation and determine if they are a good fit for you.

How Can I Refresh My Look?

Dermal Fillers and Injectables in Huntsville, ALAging brings wisdom, experience and knowledge – unfortunately, it also brings loose skin, wrinkles and lines. If you have begun to notice these undesirable effects of aging, you might be looking for a way to refresh and rejuvenate your appearance. Fortunately, there are a handful of facial rejuvenation procedures that can be used to address the most common signs of aging. Below, we’ll explore some of the treatment solutions for your concerns.

Wrinkles and Lines

For wrinkles and lines, there are two effective treatment methods. One method is by tightening the skin, which will help give the skin a more youthful and lifted appearance. This can be done using a variety of techniques, most of which involve stimulating the body’s production collagen. Treatments like microneedling can trigger collagen production in the body, helping to gradually rejuvenate the skin over time. The other method is by adding more volume to the skin, which can smooth out lines and wrinkles. For this approach, we recommend dermal fillers and injectables, which also offer the benefit of quick treatment sessions and little to no downtime.

Hyperpigmentation and Age Spots

For hyperpigmentation, age spots and other discoloration concerns, you’ll need some form of skin resurfacing treatment. These treatments use exfoliating techniques to eliminate damaged and discolored skin. After treatment, the body will produce new, healthy skin in the place of the exfoliated skin cells. With repeated treatment sessions, patients can gradually reduce the appearance of age spots and other hyperpigmentation concerns.

Skin Tone and Texture

For general improvements in skin tone and texture, you’ll want to consider skin resurfacing treatments like laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels. These treatments exfoliate the outermost, damaged layers of skin, which are often the layers responsible for uneven skin tone or texture. After these layers are removed, the body will produce smoother, more youthful skin in its place. Regular treatment sessions can help you improve and maintain your skin for optimal long-term skin health.

Your Guide to the Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are a new-wave cosmetic treatment that’s become more popular for its customizable treatment options, the crazy recovery process, and astonishing results. Not sure what the deal is with chemical peels? Let’s clear things up. Here’s everything you need to know before committing to your chemical peel.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a chemical-based facial treatment that is used to improve the appearance of skin tone and texture, fine lines and wrinkles, acne and acne scarring, and other superficial skin concerns. This treatment has different levels of intensity for patients to choose from based on their current skin concerns and level of familiarity with the overall reatment process. Ideal candidates for chemical peels have a lighter complexion, as the chemical solutions may have an effect on skin pigmentation.

What Types of Chemical Peels are There?

There are three types of chemical peels that vary in intensity depending on the type of treatment the patient is looking for. These three types of chemical peels include:

  • A light chemical peel. Light peels are the best option for patients new to the chemical peel. The light peel uses milder acids, like alpha-hydroxy acid, to gently exfoliate the surface of the skin.
  • A medium chemical peel. Medium-depth chemical peels are better for more experienced patients. These peels remove damaged cells in the outer and middle layers of skin. Medium peels typically use glycolic and salicylic acid.
  • A deep chemical peel. Deep chemical peels are the most intense peels of the three. These deep peels penetrate all the way through the middle layers of skin using TCA or phenol acid.

Dr. Nease will sit down with you during your one-on-one consultation to help you choose which peel is best for you and your skin concerns.

How Do I Prepare for My Chemical Peel?

Preparing for your chemical peel is easy and best done with Dr. Nease. We recommend you stop using at-home exfoliants for the week leading up to your appointment. Continuing to use exfoliants leading up to your chemical peel can result in tissue damage and make the healing process harder. We also recommend you go over any anti-acne or anti-aging prescriptions you are using with Dr. Nease. The chemicals in your medications may interfere with your chemical peel.

What Should I Expect on the Day of My Chemical Peel?

Before we apply the chemical peel solution to your treatment area, we will apply a topical anesthetic cream. This will help with any discomfort you may feel during your procedure. After you’re numb, the chemical solution will be applied to your treatment area. During your treatment, don’t be alarmed if you feel a slight tingling sensation. The solution will be removed from the treatment area before you leave. The whole treatment process usually takes under an hour.

What Can I Expect After My Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel got its name for a reason. You should expect the skin in your treated area to peel for the next three to 10 days following your treatment. During this time, feel free   to use a gentle cleanser to hydrating serum to help with the healing process. We also recommend using a gentle SPF and avoid excess sun exposure while your skin heals. Just remember that following the crusty healing process, you’ll be left with glowing, fresh skin! If you are interested in learning more about what to expect during your chemical peel, call us today to schedule your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Nease. Making sure all of your questions are answered is one of our biggest priorities.

Five Benefits of Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser Skin Resurfacing in Northern Alabama and the Huntsville AreaLaser skin resurfacing is one of the most popular ways for our patients to reveal a fresh, new look without any invasive surgery. This minimally-invasive procedure has been wowing patients across the country with its endless benefits and skin healing properties. Let’s go over our top five benefits of laser skin resurfacing treatments.

1. Laser Skin Resurfacing has a Quick Recovery

Healing from your laser skin resurfacing treatment only takes about three to 10 days depending on the size of the treated area and the depth of the laser. While ablative laser
resurfacing can take up to three weeks to recover from, the non-ablative skin resurfacing technique used at Nease Cosmetic Surgery takes minimal downtime and recovery. You should expect your skin to be red and feel sensitive for the first few days following treatment, but this typically resolves on its own by scabbing over.

2. Laser Skin Resurfacing Triggers Collagen Production

One of the biggest benefits of laser skin resurfacing is it triggers the body’s natural production of collagen to produce long-lasting results that keep getting better over time. Collagen is a protein in our body that adds volume and elasticity to the skin resulting in a healthy and refreshed look. With laser skin resurfacing, you can say goodbye to your fine lines and wrinkles, and hello face full of smooth collagen.

3. Laser Skin Resurfacing Evens Out Skin Tone and Texture

Laser skin resurfacing also helps to improve uneven skin tone and texture. Uneven skin texture is a difficult problem to have and can’t always be treated using serums and creams. By using lasers to remove the outermost layers of skin, we are creating a smooth and even surface, resulting in an improvement in the appearance of uneven texture.

4. Laser Skin Resurfacing Improves Acne Scarring

Even more frustrating than uneven skin texture, acne scars are a tough problem to solve. Over-the-counter and prescription creams can only do so much in helping to improve acne scarring. Laser skin resurfacing gets to the core of the problem by breaking down the scar tissue created by the acne, and revealing the healthy new skin underneath.

5. Laser Skin Resurfacing Can Be Combined with Other Treatments

The best part about laser skin resurfacing is that it doesn’t have to be done alone. We actually recommend using laser skin resurfacing in combination with your other favorite skin rejuvenation procedures, like a facelift or brow lift. Combining laser skin resurfacing with your cosmetic procedures can only enhance and maintain your age-defying results. If you are interested in learning more about how you can benefit from laser skin resurfacing, call us today to schedule your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Nease.

Brow Lift vs. Blepharoplasty: Which is Right for Me?

Our eyes do a lot for us. Not only do they let us see the beautiful world around us, but they also let us express ourselves and our emotions without saying a word. As we age, our expressions can get lost in the signs of aging, including hollowness, drooping, wrinkles and loose skin on our face. To fix that, we have several options. Today we’re going to cover the two most popular procedures to fix sagging skin around the eyes, a brow lift and blepharoplasty, to determine which procedure is best for you. And in some cases, both procedures may be indicated.

What is a Brow Lift? A brow lift, also popularly known as a forehead lift, is a procedure that’s used to elevate the position of the eyebrows and also reduce the appearance of lines that run horizontally across your forehead. It can also help to improve the appearance of deep lines and creases at the top of the bridge of your nose and between your eyebrows. Many of our patients who have chosen to get a brow lift have done so to decrease the appearance of wrinkles between the brows.

What are the Benefits of a Brow Lift? Some of the benefits of getting a brow lift done at Nease Cosmetic Surgery include:

  • Eliminating a consistently tired or angry expression
  • Relatively short recovery time of about 7 to 10 days
  • Correcting deep furrows on the brow and between the eyes
  • Helps the eyes to open up and make you look more alert and refreshed

What is Blepharoplasty? Blepharoplasty is just a fancy way of saying eyelid surgery. While blepharoplasty can refer to both upper and lower eyelid surgery, you may choose to get either one or the other treated at a time. Blepharoplasty involves the removal of excess skin and fat around the eyes to make the patient look more awake and alert. Many of our patients who have undergone blepharoplasty have done so to get rid of their hooded, droopy eyelids and under-eye bags. And when the upper eyelid skin is significantly in excess, this may cause trouble with the upper visual fields and be medically indicated.

What are the Benefits of Blepharoplasty? There are many benefits to getting blepharoplasty done at Nease Cosmetic Surgery, including:

  • Refreshed look and brighter eyes
  • Tighter skin and fewer wrinkles around the eyes
  • Improved under-eye bags
  • Improved vision after removing the skin from heavy eyelids
  • Short recovery time of about one week

Is a Brow Lift or Blepharoplasty Better for Me? If you’re looking for a procedure to improve the position of drooping brows or to fix the lines in your forehead and between your brows, you’re better off going with a brow lift. If you’re looking for a procedure to make your eyes look less tired or sad, you’re better off going with blepharoplasty. However, there is also a third option. Many of our patients get these two procedures done at the same time to improve the overall look of their eyes and forehead. Don’t be afraid to ask Dr. Nease if this is the right move for you based on your concerns and desired results.

If you are interested in learning more about how you can benefit from a brow lift and blepharoplasty, call us today to schedule your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Nease. He’ll help you figure out which procedure is best for you, or if you should go with the two-hit combo.

Five Ways to Refresh Your Look Without Surgery

Refresh your look

We understand the idea of plastic surgery sounds daunting. We also understand you may want to refresh or tweak your look without having to go under the knife. We put together our top 5 non-surgical treatments to get you the look you desire without having to undergo any major surgery.

  1. Liquid Rhinoplasty Liquid rhinoplasty, also known as a non-surgical nose job, has been ramping up in popularity over the years. This treatment uses injectable fillers to manipulate the shape of the nose and give you the look you want without going through surgery. At Nease Cosmetic Surgery, we use Juvederm® and Radiesse® to even out any bumps in the bridge and lift the tip of your nose for the perfect profile. The best part? This procedure only takes about 20 minutes to complete, which means you can have a brand new nose in under a half-hour and no recovery time.
  2. PRP Facelift The PRP facelift has gone viral on social media for its shocking appearance and major benefits. PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, a nutrient-rich substance that is extracted from blood. That’s right – this minimally invasive procedure uses a combination of your very own blood and other non-surgical skin rejuvenation techniques to add volume to the skin and smooth out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The PRP triggers the body’s natural production of collagen to tighten the skin and diminish the appearance of wrinkles.
  3. Microneedling Microneedling is a fan-favorite for patients who are struggling with acne and acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, or uneven skin texture. This treatment is great for most skin types and refreshes the skin for an overall healthier look and feel. Microneedling is done with a device that has multiple small, very fine needles on the application area. The device is pressed against the skin and the needles puncture the uppermost layers of skin, creating micro-damage. This triggers the body’s natural healing process and helps the skin produce healing properties, like collagen and elastin that keep the skin looking healthy and smooth.
  4. Lip Injections Lip injections have been a go-to way to spruce up the looks of our younger generations. This minimally invasive treatment has risen in popularity and gone viral over the years with celebrities like Kylie Jenner having admitted to getting her lips filled. At Nease Cosmetic Surgery, we use either Juvederm® Volbella or Restylane, both hyaluronic acid-based fillers to plump up your lips. This treatment takes less than 30 minutes to complete and doesn’t require any downtime or recovery. It’s an easy way to add some fullness to your thin lips and refresh your look.
  5. Laser Skin Resurfacing and Tightening The inevitable signs of aging can be frustrating for everybody. While there are surgical procedures to help tighten the skin around the face and neck, they tend to be extensive and require a large amount of recovery and downtime. With laser skin tightening, you can get the youthful effect you want without the recovery period. At Nease Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Nease uses the state-of-the-art Tetra CO2 laser, also known as the Cool Peel. While it may take several treatments to achieve your desired results, CO2 laser skin tightening offers a variety  of extra benefits including treating multiple areas at once, immediate and long-lasting results, and minimal discomfort throughout your treatment. This is the perfect way for someone stepping into the world of cosmetic surgery to get the results they want without surgery.

If you are interested to learn more about how non-surgical procedures can give you a new and refreshed look, call us today to schedule your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Nease.
