Blepharoplasty in Chattanooga, Nashville and Scottsboro

One of the most common reasons for blepharoplasty is increased sagging in the thin, fragile skin around the eyes. Sometimes it progresses to the point that it interferes with proper vision. Dr. Carey Nease does upper and lower eyelid surgeries for men and women in Chattanooga, Nashville, Scottsboro and surrounding communities.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty in Northern Alabama and the Huntsville AreaBlepharoplasty is the medical term for eyelid surgery, usually done to improve the appearance of aging eyes. It can involve just the upper eyelids, just the lower eyelids, or both.

As you age, the upper eyelids begin to droop, sometimes sagging to the point of impairing vision. This can change the need for a cosmetic blepharoplasty to one of needing a functional blepharoplasty.

During blepharoplasty, excess skin or fat is removed from upper and/or lower lids to improve eye contours, diminish “bags” beneath the eyes, and tighten sagging skin.

How Much Does Blepharoplasty Cost?

The cost of blepharoplasty runs from $4,000 for upper or lower eyelid surgery at Nease Cosmetic Surgery. The cost of having both upper and lower eyelids operated on at the same time will vary depending on individual circumstances. Generally speaking, pricing starts on the low end at $4,000, with the high end capping around $8,000.

Some blepharoplasty operations are done for cosmetic reasons and are considered elective, and most insurance companies will not cover the cost. If your blepharoplasty is done for functional reasons, it’s possible some or all of the cost will be covered by insurance. You’ll want to check with your insurance provider to be sure what they will or will not cover.

At Nease Cosmetic Surgery, we try to keep procedures as affordable for our patients as possible by offering complimentary consultations as well as a variety of payment methods, including cash, major credit cards, and financing through CareCredit®.

What Are the Benefits of Blepharoplasty?

Anyone who has undergone blepharoplasty can usually list many benefits they now enjoy, and most are extremely happy with their results and the decision to have the surgery. Some of the most frequently heard benefits include:

  • Tighter skin and fewer wrinkles around the eyes
  • Reduced appearance of fatty pockets or bags beneath the eyes
  • Improved vision after removing the skin from droopy, heavy eyelids
  • Improved self-confidence about facial appearance
  • An overall more refreshing, rested, and youthful appearance

Am I a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

In most cases, if you’re a healthy adult, and you understand and agree with the doctor about your expectations, it’s likely you’d be a great candidate for blepharoplasty and will be greatly pleased with your results.

What is Blepharoplasty Recovery Like?

Recovery following blepharoplasty is typically rather short. Swelling and some bruising can be expected but quickly disappears within a few days. Applying cool compresses to the eyes helps to reduce the amount of bruising and swelling. Walking and other light activities also contribute to a speedier recovery.

Generally, you can return to work and other normal activities within about seven to ten days after surgery. After about two weeks, most of the bruising and swelling will have disappeared.
